NWU honours positive male role models

Every year exceptional male role models are celebrated across the globe on International Men’s Day.

This special day is an occasion to honour the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. This day focuses on men’s and male children’s health, promoting gender equality and highlighting positive aspects of the male role model.

On 19 June 2019 the North-West University (NWU) paid homage to exceptional male role models in the surrounding community of its campus in Mahikeng.

Mr Clement Manoko, executive director for corporate relations and marketing, said it is easy to forget that men too need to be acknowledged and appreciated for their time and efforts.

“This event aims to encourage men to discuss those issues which they hardly talk about, especially the perceptions of how men are supposed to behave,” he said.

“This is also an opportunity to shine the spotlight on men who are making a positive impact in their communities, and who aim to fight women and child abuse.”

The guest speaker at the event was a renowned Motsweding FM presenter Pastor Israel Motsamai. He spoke about the four Ps that can help remind men who and what they are.

“The 4 Ps which are common in all exceptional men are patience, priesthood, provider and protector,” he explained. “This means realising that all good things in life come to those wait, not neglecting their spiritual foundations, and providing for and protecting their families and communities.”
