North-West University (NWU) FC suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after going down 1–0 to Cape Town-based Hope FC in a tightly contested home encounter.

The result follows the 2–0 defeat last weekend to Lerumo Lions in Dobsonville, Soweto, leaving NWU FC still searching for their first points since their opening fixture.

Hope FC made a blistering start to the match, scoring within the opening five minutes to take an early lead and immediately putting NWU FC on the back foot.

NWU FC, however, responded with determination and created a few opportunities as they looked to get back into the contest. The home side showed attacking intent and continued to put pressure on the visitors but could not find the finishing touch needed to convert their chances.

The challenge was made even more significant by the experience in the Hope FC camp. The Cape Town side is coached by former Premier Soccer League defender Clayton Daniels, while their squad includes former PSL stars Keagan Dolly and Lyle Lakay, bringing considerable top-flight experience to the team.

NWU FC continued to fight until the final stages of the match and eventually appeared to have found the equaliser with just five minutes remaining.

However, the goal was disallowed by the match officials, denying NWU FC a potentially valuable point and leaving the home side frustrated at the final whistle.

Despite the defeat, NWU FC demonstrated character and created enough opportunities to suggest that their results do not yet fully reflect their performances on the field.

The team will now regroup and prepare for its next Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture, with the focus firmly on ending the two-match losing streak and securing their first victory of the season.
