NWU Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences recognises its top achievers

By Oldrin Masowa

The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (FNAS) on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus recently hosted an awards ceremony in recognition of top student achievers.

During the event students were rewarded for achieving top academic results in their various modules during the first semester.

“It is important to recognise and reward our students for their exceptional academic contributions, especially after the impact of Covid-19 on their studies,” says Retshedisitsoe Motsatse, academic officer of the FNAS Student Academic Chapter.

She adds that when students feel appreciated, they also feel inspired to continue to do well in their studies, which will in turn contribute to cultivating a culture of excellence within the faculty and the university as a whole.

“Our faculty consists of six schools and covers 14 different subjects. We decided to select nine top achievers per subject – three each from first to third-year study level – according to their average percentage obtained in each subject,” explains Retshedisitsoe.

She says the faculty is proud of all these students and she hopes to see more students excelling in their studies.

“As a faculty we want to make a positive academic impact on our students, ensuring that they continue to be successful in their studies,” adds Retshedisitsoe.

“It would be great if the university continues to invest more in our academics through the provision of tutors to assist students, especially in challenging modules such as mathematics, chemistry and physics.”
