NWU expert to speak at mathematical conferences

Prof Masood Khalique, an expert in mathematical sciences from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng, will be a speaker at the 2017 International Conference on Mathematics and its Applications to be held on 13–15 November 2017 at Government College University Lahore, Pakistan.

The conference aims to provide a platform for researchers, scientists, academics and industrial professionals from all over the world to present their innovative research in the field of mathematical sciences. It also provides participants the opportunity to exchange new ideas, share knowledge and experiences, to establish research relations and to find global partners for future collaborations.

The conference will consist of plenary and invited lectures. The event will cover the major areas of mathematical sciences such as functional analysis and its applications, fluid dynamics, fuzzy logic, topological vector spaces and nonlinear operator theory, best approximations theory, soft set theory, graph theory, algebra and many more.

Prof Khalique’s paper will be on “Symmetries and conservation laws for Differential Equations”. This lecture will present the latest research on Lie point symmetries and conservation laws for differential equations.

Prof Khalique will also be presenting a research paper titled “Symmetry analysis of a generalized Benney-Luke equation with time dependent coefficients” at the annual International Conference of the Southern Africa Mathematical Sciences Association (SAMSA2017). This will be hosted by the University of Dares Salaam and will take place in Arusha, Tanzania from 20-23 November 2017.

Prof Khalique will be accompanied by his post-doctoral fellow, Dr Tanki Motsepa, who will do a presentation on “Lie group analysis of a general Korteweg-de Vries equation”, and his MSc student, Mr Innocent Simbanefayi, who will deliver a presentation on “Travelling waves and conservation laws of a third-order KdV-BBM type equation”.

 Prof Masood Khalique.
