NWU and Career Centre crowned the best in South Africa

Student satisfaction is guaranteed at the North-West University (NWU): the institution and its Career Centre have received top honours in the UNIVERSUM Global Surveys Awards.

The university received first place in the coveted Student Satisfaction Award category, and its Career Centre also came first in the Best Career Services Award category.

Peet Roos, acting manager and career consultant at the NWU’s Career Centre, says winning the Student Satisfaction Award is a major achievement for the NWU as a whole.

“This award reflects students’ satisfaction with the university and not only the Career Centre. The NWU received the highest satisfaction rating, followed by Stellenbosch University in second place and Wits University in third place.”

Approximately 2 000 students, representing all three NWU campuses, participated in the UNIVERSUM survey. The survey, which was conducted between November 2016 and March 2017, is used to determine the winners, who were announced in May.

Peet says the Best Career Services Award specifically reflects the students’ rating of the NWU Career Centre. The Career Centre was first in the survey, with the University of Cape Town and the Central University of Technology placed second and third respectively.

Prof Martin Oosthuizen, deputy vice-chancellor for teaching and learning, says the achievement follows a few remarkable years in which the NWU’s Career Centre was consistently in the top three in the country. “Now we are number one! This is a huge achievement, taking into account that we compete with universities in major metropolitan areas and that it reflects the work of a staff of only seven dedicated people.”

He congratulated Peet Roos and the team from the NWU Career Centre. “The NWU is so proud of you! We also would not have achieved what we have without the inspirational leadership of Bernice Smit, previous manager of the Career Centre.”

Peet Roos and Anell van Pletzen celebrate a double win for the NWU and the NWU Career Centre.
