The global economy affects South Africa and ultimately also the financial sustainability of individual households. That is why the contribution of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Prof Ravinder Rena at the Conference on Sustainable Economic Transformation, Innovation and Governance in Emerging Economies is invaluable.

Prof Rena is an academic ant the NWU’s campus in Mahikeng. As keynote speaker he shared his views on “Global Economic Challenges by 2030 - A case of Zimbabwe”.

The conference was organised by Midlands State University in Zimbabwe, and 37 institutions from seven countries participated in the event.

It aimed to bring together researchers from around the globe to discuss sustainable social and economic development, entrepreneurship, financial innovation and inclusion, anti-corruption initiatives and governance.

Prof Rena also chaired a PhD colloquium where scholars from various African countries such as Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique, Cameroon and Kenya took part.

“This was a great opportunity for us to share our research and learn from our various counterparts,” says Prof Rena. “Members of the academia, the public and private sector and NGOs presented approximately 200 papers which were well received by all.”
