My research focuses on the rational design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel small molecules targeting complex neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. A primary pillar of my work is optimising treatments for central nervous system disorders. For instance, our laboratory has discovered novel agents for the treatment of therapy-resistant depression and Parkinson’s disease, while also developing potent D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) inhibitors to address the hypofunction of NMDA receptors implicated in schizophrenia. Our group’s core expertise lies in computer-assisted drug design (CADD), chemical synthesis and characterisation of small molecules, and the in vitro evaluation of pharmacological potencies and mechanisms of action.
