ENACTUS Vaal – an affiliated student community, aims to transform lives and shape a better and more sustainable region and province to the betterment of all residents through entrepreneurial interventions. One such an intervention is Project Ikamva.
Project Ikamva
Project Ikamva (which was launched in 2016) will be brought to fruition in 2017. This project represents an innovative endeavour aimed at assisting small scale business ventures to succeed over a long-term period. According to Banele Ngemntu, chairperson of ENACTUS Vaal, the focus is on start-up entrepreneurs – with an existing product, who are trying to impact the market. As part of Project Ikamva a fourfold approach will be followed: (1) Flea markets and social gatherings, (2) DotMade PtyLtd collaboration, (3) Home station or store and, (4) Crowdfunding.
During the initial stage the aim is to introduce the customer base to the product or entrepreneur. It is therefore of utmost importance that exposure takes place as widely as possible. During the second phase a partnership or collaboration is entered into by the entrepreneur and DotMade PtyLtd (a millennial technology driven marketing and business solutions company) ensuring access to a wide range of e-commerce facilities. It is also during this phase that entrepreneurial training on quality, sustainability and financial management takes place. The importance of an effective online presence is also reiterated at this stage.
Stage three of the project intervention will see all participating entrepreneurs be given access to the Yoco platform. Yoco offers SMEs a means to accept card payments by providing them with portable, mobile card readers (that connect to a mobile phone or tablet). It also offers them a free point-of-sale app and business intelligence portal, enabling business owners to monitor: store performance, add products to their point of sale, adjust prices and manage staff as well as get daily sales summaries, export data and store all receipts. It furthermore allows business owners to see what items are selling and compare performance. The Yoco card readers can be purchased once-off and from there merchants only pay per transaction.
The final stage entails intensive crowdfunding. It is also this phase – and the impact thereof, which ENACTUS Vaal wants to showcase during the annual MTN ICT competition later in the year. This phase focuses on fundraising training, the building of corporate networks and business intelligence.
