The North-West University (NWU) bodybuilder Bokang Matsetela is heading to the world stage after winning two national titles at the IFBB South Africa National Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships.

Bokang claimed first place in the junior ladies’ bikini category and followed it with another victory in the senior ladies’ bikini under-172 cm category on 21 August 2026. Her double triumph helped secure her selection for the 2026 IFBB Amateur World Championships in Santa Susanna, Spain.

The national amateur event formed part of a major bodybuilding weekend, followed by the IFBB South Africa National Semi Pro Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships on 22 August.

For Bokang, the two national titles represent far more than podium finishes. They are the result of months of discipline, demanding training and sacrifices behind the scenes.

“Winning first place in both the junior ladies’ bikini and senior ladies’ bikini under-172 cm categories was more than just a personal triumph. It was a validation of discipline, sacrifice and the relentless pursuit of excellence,” she says.

Competing successfully across both the junior and senior divisions also strengthened her confidence as she prepares to face international competition.

“These victories meant that my hard work resonated not only with the judges, but also with the broader bodybuilding community. They proved that I could excel across age divisions and stand out among the best in South Africa.”

Bokang says her performances at the national championships demonstrated the consistency, versatility and ability to perform under pressure that contributed to her world championship selection.

Her focus now shifts to Santa Susanna, where she will have the opportunity to compete against leading amateur bodybuilders from around the world.

“My expectation is to bring my absolute best package to the stage, aiming not only for placement, but for personal growth, international recognition and the pride of representing my country and university,” she says.

The world championships will give Bokang an opportunity to build on her national success while representing both South Africa and the NWU on an international platform.

Her journey from winning two national categories to earning a world championship call-up marks another significant milestone for NWU bodybuilding.
