Caster up for world’s top sport award

North-West University (NWU) student Caster Semenya again finds herself in exalted company. The 27-year old, who celebrated her birthday on 7 January, received a belated present when she was named as one of the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards nominees.

Caster will be vying for the top honours in the World Sportswoman of the Year category with non other than one of the most decorated tennis players ever: Serena Williams.

In addition to squaring off against the undisputed queen of the modern court, the World and Olympic 800 meters champion will have to fend off significant challenges from the 2017 Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza, sprinting ace Allyson Felix, champion skier Mikaela Shiffrin and swimming superstar Katie Ledecky.

Members of the Laureus World Sports Academy will now cast their votes and the winners will be announced on 27 February in Monaco.
