Campus choir hits the right notes during SATICA Music Festival

The choir of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark – known as the ‘Voices of the River’ – performed exceptionally well at the recent 34th annual SATICA Eisteddfod in Durban.

The choir held the NWU’s name high by finishing second overall in the Silver Category. To add to their Top two placement, the choir from Vanderbijlpark also walked away with a first place in the African Prescribed Rendition and a third place in the Western Prescribed Rendition. Thabang Bodibe was applauded as Best Conductor and Simphiwe Wendy Mathebula was awarded the coveted title of Best MC.

The eisteddfod saw 19 choirs from across South Africa in attendance and choirs took part in three divisions, namely: Platinum Category, Gold Category and Silver Category. Each participating choir had to perform several compulsory renditions.

The choir’s senior conductor, Japhta Motsokwane, says that he is “overwhelmed with a sense of pride and admiration” for the choir members as their achievements bear testament to the long hours they put in to achieve success.
