Busy year for NWU Vanderbijlpark alumni

At the heart of the North-West University (NWU) lies a distinctive spirit of a meaningful shared sense of belonging.

Add to this the pride and loyalty of the members of the extended university community and you understand why year-on-year graduates go out in the wider world with not only a spirit of deep rooted purpose, but also a vigour to continue to make an active contribution towards their alma mater. And this year is no different.

During 2018 the Alumni Office of the NWU’s campus in Vanderbijlpark will treat members of the alumni fraternity to several events, including networking occasions, reunions and business breakfast sessions.

The year will also see the continuation and expansion of the campus’s Young Alumni initiative. The latter aims not only to transform new graduates into active alumni, but also to motivate them to remain active role-players within the university environment – be it as volunteers, donors, mentors of guests lecturers.

According to Zanele Ngobese of the Alumni Office, this year will also see the composition of regional chapters and as such events are planned for Cape Town, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein.

The office’s events calendar started on 1 March, with a business breakfast hosted on the campus in Vanderbijlpark. During this a panel of experts shared their respective views on the State of the Nation Address (SONA) and the national Budget Speech.

The following events are lined-up for the remainder of the year:

Chapter meetings

  • Cape Town, 21 April
  • Johannesburg, 17 May

Faculty events

Student leadership reunion (in collaboration with NWU Mafikeng Campus)

  • All members of previous Student Representative Councils (SRC) as far back as 2004.

NWU Vanderbijlpark Gala Dinner

  • 30 August
This annual event sees alumni and friends of the NWU come together for an evening of glitz and glamour.

Young Alumni Homecoming

  • 29 September
This event, which takes place annually, is hosted on the Vanderbijlpark Campus and serves as an important fundraising initiative.

Alumni Golf Day (in collaboration with NWU Sport)

  • 3 November

Apart from the above mentioned events, the Alumni Office will also be involved in various campus-related activities and will henceforth collaborate with internal departments such as Student Life, the NWU Career Centre, Academic Student Lifecycle Administration (SALA) and NWU Sport. These events include mentorship programmes, motivational talks and the celebration of national happenings such as Women’s Day and Mandela Day.
