Alumnus shares his passion for teaching in 2024 Lead Multipliers Programme

North-West University (NWU) alumnus Amogelang Mokonyane is one of 16 Lead Multipliers participating in the Teachers CAN Multiplier Programme.

Teachers CAN aims to create a network of young teachers across South Africa, empowering them to have a significant impact on the education sector's quality and development. By fostering collaboration and community engagement, its Fellowship and Multiplier programmes seek to empower educators to drive positive change within their schools and communities.

Amogelang, currently a teacher at Kgosi Kebalepile Secondary School in Mahikeng, applied for a Teachers CAN Fellowship in 2022 and was accepted into the programme in 2023.

Now, as a selected Lead Multiplier for 2024, he is looking forward to participating in and hosting local events in Mahikeng to support and guide fellow educators.

The Multiplier programme focuses on supporting any South African teachers between the ages of 23 and 40 to be Lead Multipliers and build an education-focused community.

Amogelang says he became part of the programme because he wanted to reignite his passion for teaching and ensure that children who attend less affluent schools also get a quality education.

"This programme is not only about teaching; it's about community building and advocacy. We aim to empower teachers and allies who are committed to ensuring every child in South Africa receives a quality education."

Amogelang obtained his BEd degree from the NWU in 2020, followed by a BEd honours degree in 2021. Currently pursuing his MEd degree, he brings a wealth of academic knowledge and practical experience to his role as a Lead Multiplier.

As Mokonyane and his fellow Lead Multipliers embark on this journey, they are poised to make meaningful contributions to the educational landscape, fostering environments where students can thrive and succeed.
