Alumni get together to discuss Convocation matters

A group of alumni of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark recently attended an information session on the Convocation, its role and purpose, and how to join.

Prof Marius Stander who has been involved with the campus since 1979 – first as a student and now as lecturer and member of the Convocation Executive Committee – explained that the Convocation is an opportunity for alumni to have an impact on how the university is managed.

It is important for alumni from all three NWU campuses to become fully fledged members of the Convocation. By joining in the conversation, they can play an important role in ensuring that the quality and reputation of the university are upheld and strengthened.

Prof Stander also referred to the significant role that a convocation plays at renowned international universities such as Harvard, and explained how this advisory body can influence the course of history at a university.

Mr Warren Makgowe, director of stakeholder elations at the NWU, then explained how alumni can join the Convocation.

Do you want to become a member of the Convocation? All you have to do is to pay a once-off fee of R50 to become a lifelong-member. Membership application forms are available online at http://www.nwu.ac.za/content/membership-and-application-forms-convocation.
