Elmarí Deacon, a Clinical Psychologist since 2001, began her career at NWU in 2002. She was promoted to Professor of Psychology in 2024 and is currently the Acting Director of the School of Psychosocial Health. Elmarí has received three teaching awards and is actively involved in program development, including rethinking Psychology at NWU. She has supervised 27 Master's and four PhD students, primarily within the SMILE with Diabetes Project. Elmarí has published 28 articles and serves on the executive committee of the Health Psychology Division of PsySSA.
