His research interests include nose-to-brain drug delivery, in vitro and ex vivo models to assess intranasal drug delivery, functional excipients, beneficial herb-drug interactions and biopharmaceutical aspects of natural compounds. He has published more than 100 articles in accredited, peer-reviewed scientific journals and supervised as well as co-supervised more than 20 PhD students and more than 70 MSc students. He holds a C2 rating from the NRF and has received research funding from the NRF and MRC. He has been invited to present plenary sessions at international conferences and received distinguished awards from the Academy of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa. His most significant research output has been on the enhancement of the delivery of phytochemical compounds to reach both the systemic circulation and brain as targets. Phytochemicals from medicinal plants that have been shown pharmacologically active in the brain against depression, anxiety, migraine and cognitive disorders have been successfully delivered across excised nasal respiratory and olfactory epithelial membranes. Furthermore, he is involved in the development of advanced in vitro-ex vivo combination models to predict drug absorption into the brain after intranasal administration.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-blog-or-website field--type-link field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Blog or Website</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="http://www.nwu.ac.za/pharmacen">http://www.nwu.ac.za/pharmacen</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-experts-in field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Other experts in</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1602" hreflang="en">Pharmaceutics</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-url-google-scholar field--type-link field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=X4fmQwEAAAAJ&amp;hl=en">https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=X4fmQwEAAAAJ&amp;hl=en</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1403" hreflang="en">Centre of Excellence for Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmacen)</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-orcid field--type-link field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8916-3927">https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8916-3927</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit-fsd field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1539" hreflang="en">School of Pharmacy</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-media field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Other Media</div> <div class="field--item"><p><a href="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Josias-Hamman">https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Josias-Hamman</a></p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit-f field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1999" hreflang="en">Health Sciences</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-linkedin field--type-link field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/sias-hamman-b2599412b/">https://www.linkedin.com/in/sias-hamman-b2599412b/</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-physical-address field--type-text-long field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Physical Address</div> <div class="field--item"><p>Potchefstroom campus, Building G16, Office 130</p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-linkedin field--type-link field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=210307849&amp;authType=NAME_SEARCH&amp;authToken=vPaB&amp;locale=en_US&amp;trk=tyah&amp;trkInfo=tarId%3A1407401091583%2Ctas%3Asias%20hamman%2Cidx%3A1-1-1">LinkedIn</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-telephone-number field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Telephone Number</div> <div class="field--item">+27 (0)18 299 4035</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-fax field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Fax</div> <div class="field--item">+27 (0)18 299 5219</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-e-mail-main field--type-email field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">E-mail</div> <div class="field--item">sias.hamman@nwu.ac.za</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item"> <img src="/sites/news.nwu.ac.za/files/files/experts/_MC18715.jpg" width="401" height="600" alt="" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-photo-caption field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Prof Sias Hamman</div> Thu, 07 Aug 2014 08:52:58 +0000 PERTUNIA THULO 19860 at https://news.nwu.ac.za
