Jaco Meyer is a South African composer, researcher, and lecturer in Composition and Musicology at the School of Music and Conservatory of North-West University (NWU). He earned his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Hannes Taljaard, focusing on expanding Steve Larson’s Theory of Musical Forces through an analysis of Wim Henderickx’s Ragas. He also holds a Fellowship from Trinity College London(FTCL) in Composition and a Master’s in Positive Psychology (MAPP) from NWU. In recognition of his significant contributions as a composer, he was awarded an Honorary Medal by the South African Academy for Science and Arts. An NRF-rated scholar, Meyer’s research is frequently presented at local and international conferences and published in accredited academic journals. His work spans music analysis, the expansion of theoretical frameworks, and the promotion of well-being among music educators. As a composer, his music has been performed by renowned soloists and ensembles worldwide. He is particularly known for his conceptual interpretations of artworks and interdisciplinary collaborations with visual artists and sculptors. His compositions are celebrated for their depth,originality, and innovative exploration of instrumental possibilities.

Catrien Wentink completed her DMus degree in piano performance in 2017 at North-West University under the guidance of Dr Truida van der Walt. Her focus was on ensemble music and piano accompaniment.

In 2009, after postgraduate studies in Youngstown, USA, with Caroline Oltmanns, she received the ABRSM performance licentiate (solo piano) (LRSM) and the Unisa performance licentiate (two pianos) with distinction and was invited to participate in the Unisa bursary winner’s competition. She has been a member of Trio Joie de Vivre since 2018, and together they have performed in concerts and at numerous festivals such as Aardklop Arts Festival and Wakkerstroom Classic Music Festival. She performs regularly as a chamber musician and accompanist.

Her research focus is on Dalcroze Eurhythmics, music and movement, and music theory analysis. Her current research has been on the application of Dalcroze Eurhythmics in different settings: music ensembles, education at tertiary level, and the elderly. She has published articles in Frontiers of Psychology, SAMUS, the International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, and the International Journal of Education and the Arts, and two book chapters in the Peter Lang book series.

She has been employed at North-West University since 2011, initially, as a lecturer in music education at the Faculty of Education, before joining the School of Music in 2016 as senior lecturer in music theory. In 2019 she received a teaching excellence award from the university. She loves to incorporate movement and improvisation in her music theory classes.
