I decided to satisfy my curiosity by studying sport science. After obtaining my Bachelors in Adapted Physical Activities and Health and working as a coach my intrigue for human movement science simply increased. I went on to study an Honours in Strength and Condition and Rehabilitation followed by a Masters in Human Movement Science and Research. It was at this moment that my mentor planted the research seed that would lead me to pursue an academic research career. I was awarded a Regional bursary to carry-out my PhD research focusing on the psychophysiological mechanisms at play in the relationships between fatigue, stereotypes and exercise among people living with chronic disease and more specifically HIV/AIDS. The multi-disciplinary approach of my PhD research allowed me to gain knowledge and expertise in both psychological mechanisms and methodologies as well as physiological, and more specifically neuromuscular, literature and methodologies. My research and multiple collaborations have led to the publication of over ten articles in international peer reviewed journals and a number of communications at international and national conferences including the ECSS in 2016 (Vienna). My passion for research and coaching led me to invest in teaching and I soon enjoyed sharing the learning experience in sports science. I have been teaching for over five years and was also involved in training PhD and Masters students and co-supervise Masters theses. I am a team worker and enjoy a challenge. I now have the privilege of continuing my research and academic career at the NWU collaborating with the Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation (PhASRec) research area. I am part of a range of research projects including qualitative, quantitative and experimental research.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1379" hreflang="en">Physical Activity Sport and Recreation (FASReK)</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit-fsd field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1431" hreflang="en">Faculty of Health Sciences</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-media field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Other Media</div> <div class="field--item"><p>Linkedin : <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/laura-gray-0b1b181a0/">https://www.linkedin.com/in/laura-gray-0b1b181a0/</a> Researchgate : <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Laura-Gray-17">https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Laura-Gray-17</a></p> <p>Google Scholar : <a href="https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&amp;as_sdt=0%2C5&amp;q=L+Gray+et+al.%2C+exercise%2C+stereotypes&amp;btnG=">https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&amp;as_sdt=0%2C5&amp;q=L+Gray+et+al.%2…</a></p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-physical-address field--type-text-long field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Physical Address</div> <div class="field--item"><p>Potch Campus</p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-telephone-number field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Telephone Number</div> <div class="field--item">0182991054</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-cellphone field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Cellphone Number</div> <div class="field--item">0712712799</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-e-mail-main field--type-email field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">E-mail</div> <div class="field--item">44937598@nwu.ac.za</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item"> <img src="/sites/news.nwu.ac.za/files/files/experts/GRAY%2C%20L%20-%20Dr%20Laura%20GRAY%20%281%29.jpeg" width="1932" height="2576" alt="" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-photo-caption field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Laura Gray</div> Mon, 31 Oct 2022 14:05:34 +0000 BELINDA BANTHAM 28606 at https://news.nwu.ac.za Barry Gerber https://news.nwu.ac.za/expert/barry-gerber <span>Barry Gerber</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/32504" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">BELINDA BANTHAM</span></span> <span>Mon, 10/31/2022 - 16:01</span> <div class="field field--name-field-field-of-expertise field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1122" hreflang="en">Kinderkinetics</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-person-s-title field--type-list-string field--label-hidden field--item">Dr</div> <div class="field field--name-field-job-title field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field--item">Senior Lecturer</div> <div class="field field--name-field-name-surname field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Barry</div> <div class="field field--name-field-surname field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Gerber</div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-experts-from field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Other experts from</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/2028" hreflang="en">School of Human Movement Sciences</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p>I’m Mr. B.P. Developing a keen interest for human movement science I started my research activities during my Master’s degree focusing on biomechanics and motor control of gait. I specifically analysed the gait of patients with Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD). I pursued my interest in research by doing a PhD at the Laboratory of Physiology and Biomechanics of Locomotion in Belgium. My PhD Thesis entitled: “The effect of gravity on the motor control of landing” was financed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Prodex (Belgian Scientific Politics) in order to perform experiments during parabolic flights aboard an A300 ZERO-G in Bordeaux (France). During my PhD, I learned basic mechanics and electronics to build a complex experimental set-up in collaboration with an engineer (Arsalis) and a technician. I also learn to use biomechanics equipment and to program for data analysis. The results of my PhD have been communicated under the form of three articles in highly-ranked journals and at several international and national conferences allowing me to express my writing and oral communication skills. Next to research, I have been investing time and effort in managing master theses of students and helping PhD students with their research. I have also been teaching human movement sciences for the past three years as a non-tenure track Professor at Université Côte d’Azur (Nice, France) and now as a newly appointed senior lecturer in Health Sciences at the NWU. I mainly teach exercise physiology, biomechanics and anatomy. I enjoy collaborating and working as a team and am currently co-supervising a Master student and working on multiple research projects with the Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation (PhASRec) research area at the NWU.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1379" hreflang="en">Physical Activity Sport and Recreation (FASReK)</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit-fsd field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1431" hreflang="en">Faculty of Health Sciences</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-media field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Other Media</div> <div class="field--item"><p><a href="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Clement-Gambelli">https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Clement-Gambelli</a> <a href="https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&amp;as_sdt=0%2C5&amp;q=C.+N.+Gambelli+et+al.%2C+&amp;btnG=">https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&amp;as_sdt=0%2C5&amp;q=C.+N.+Gambelli+…</a></p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-physical-address field--type-text-long field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Physical Address</div> <div class="field--item"><p>Potcheftsroom Campus</p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-telephone-number field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Telephone Number</div> <div class="field--item">0182991054</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-cellphone field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Cellphone Number</div> <div class="field--item">0661632474</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-e-mail-main field--type-email field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">E-mail</div> <div class="field--item">40808742@nwu.ac.za</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item"> <img src="/sites/news.nwu.ac.za/files/files/experts/GAMBELLI%2C%20C%20-%20Photo%20Clem%20%28002%29%20%281%29.jpeg" width="267" height="223" alt="" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-photo-caption field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Clément N.
