She completed her PhD in Linguistics and Literary Theory in 2018, which focused on reconsidering traditional theories of ethnolinguistic vitality, from a sub-cultural, sociolinguistic perspective. She has since published her research monograph based on her PhD thesis, and has published academic articles in accredited, peer-reviewed, national and international journals. Her findings have also been presented at a number of national and international conferences. Besides her focus on sub-cultural languages and understanding their role and function in society by applying and reconceptualising traditional mainstream language theories, her research interest extends beyond sociolinguistics to language policy and language rights. Her most recent work involves sociolinguistic investigations regarding language vitality (and revitalisation), maintenance, and shift of indigenous South African languages and variations.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1713" hreflang="en">UPSET Research Focus Area (Understanding and Processing Language in Complex Settings)</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit-fsd field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1419" hreflang="en">School of Languages</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-other-media field--type-text-long field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Other Media</div> <div class="field--item"><p>Orcid: 0000-0003-2117-2189</p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.17159/1727-3781/2024/v27i0a17366">https://doi.org/10.17159/1727-3781/2024/v27i0a17366</a></p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.1075/lplp.21053.rav">https://doi.org/10.1075/lplp.21053.rav</a></p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.4018/978-1-7998-6940-5.ch002">https://doi.org/10.4018/978-1-7998-6940-5.ch002</a></p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003092261">https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003092261</a></p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.1080/10228195.2018.1440319">https://doi.org/10.1080/10228195.2018.1440319</a></p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.4102/lit.v35i1.433">https://doi.org/10.4102/lit.v35i1.433</a></p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-visit-f field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Visit</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/1997" hreflang="en">Humanities</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-physical-address field--type-text-long field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Physical Address</div> <div class="field--item"><p>Vanderbijlpark Campus, Building A16, Ground floor, Office G01</p> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-telephone-number field--type-string field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">Telephone Number</div> <div class="field--item">0169103512</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-e-mail-main field--type-email field--label-inline"> <div class="field--label">E-mail</div> <div class="field--item">natasha.ravyse@nwu.ac.za</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item"> <img src="/sites/news.nwu.ac.za/files/files/experts/N%20Ravyse%20profile%20pic.jpg" width="2944" height="2208" alt="" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-photo-caption field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Dr Natasha Ravyse</div> Thu, 25 Oct 2018 10:03:14 +0000 BELINDA BANTHAM 21308 at https://news.nwu.ac.za
