The majority of his research projects are performed in appropriate translational animal models of human psychiatric disease. He has also published in the field of animal research ethics and pharmacology education.</p> <p>Tiaan is an established, NRF rated researcher with several research publications and has delivered multiple postgraduate students. My research focuses on mechanisms of synaptic and cellular signalling, and especially their relevance in the pathology and pharmacology of stress-related disorders. I have successfully developed a number of <em>in vivo</em> animal models of human psychiatric disorders, specifically major depression, schizophrenia, PTSD, OCD and tardive dyskinesia (TD).
