Her responsibilities include teaching undergraduate nursing students and supervising postgraduate students. She joined the NWU mentorship program. Dr. Chipu completed her PhD in 2022, under the supervision of Prof. Downing and Prof. Nel. Her PhD is titled: A model to facilitate self-care of professional nurses caring for Critically Ill Patients. Before joining NWU, she worked as a Nursing Lecturer at the University of the Free State (UFS), South Africa, in March 2023. From 1996 to 2023, she worked at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Gauteng Province, as a Professional Nurse, Clinical Facilitator, and Operational Manager. Dr. Chipu participated in several committees, including the Women Influencing Scholarship and Education Appeal Committee and the Black Female Academics network at UFS. She has published articles in high-impact journals and disseminated her research nationally and internationally. Additionally, she serves as a peer reviewer. Dr. Chipu’s research and teaching focus primarily on caring, self-care, and "ubuntu," with a particular interest in Critical Care Nursing. Afterward, she pursued her career in nursing. Upon completing her studies, she served as an officer and professional nurse specializing in Community nursing and Primary Health Care. After almost eight years of service, she resigned and joined the School of Nursing at North-West University (NWU), where she completed her Master’s and PhD degrees in Nursing. She has received recognition for her excellence in teaching and has been actively involved in community nursing and primary health care.</p> <p>Prof. Rabie is a registered nurse in various specialties, including General Nursing, Psychiatry, Midwifery, and Community Nursing. She also holds qualifications in Clinical Health Assessment, Treatment, and Care (Primary Health Care), as well as in administration and education. Afterward, she completed both her Master’s and PhD degrees.</p> <p>As a dedicated educator, Prof. Rabie teaches both undergraduate and post-basic nursing programs. She has taught various modules and is currently the subject head for community nursing. Additionally, she collaborates interdisciplinary with international universities on community nursing projects.</p> <p>Prof. Rabie has contributed to various community projects and co-developed of a short course in collaboration with the Department of Health. She is a C2 NRF-rated researcher, supervising numerous graduate students and publishing book chapters and articles in national and international journals. She is registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) with General Nursing, Psychiatry, Community, Midwifery, Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, Moderator and Assessor. She further continued her postgraduate education and graduated in BCur (Ed et Admin) degree in 2012, Masters in Nursing degree in 2016 and PhD in Nursing Science which was awarded in 2021, all these qualifications were obtained at the NWU.</p> <p>Enhancing midwives, nurses and nurse educators' cultural competence within the South African healthcare system to improve patient outcomes. There is a need for a culturally diverse country like South Africa to provide quality health care that recognizes the diverse cultures. Midwives and nurses need to be culturally competent to provide quality healthcare to diverse cultures. The nurse educators responsible for producing future professionals must also have the requisite knowledge and competencies to achieve the objective of providing culturally congruent care to the diverse population. Dr Shopo is a member of the Transcultural Nursing Society, an international organisation which aims to enhance the quality of culturally congruent, competent, and equitable care that results in improved health and well-being for people worldwide. She has contributed to research in the field of cultural competence with manuscripts published in international peer-reviewed journals. One of the manuscripts were written in collaboration with researcher from Namibia, this further emphasises the drive for collaboration in research to promote cultural competence. Furthermore, she has received NRF Thuthuka funding this year to pursue her research in the filed of cultural competence in nursing. Prof Lubbe published over 38 peer-reviewed articles, presented 40 national and 19 international conference posters and papers and a number of professional and parenting articles. She is an invited television and radio guest, author and guest speaker at various public parenting forums, including well known parenting magazines, such as Baba en Kleuter and Your Pregnancy.</p> <p>Prof Lubbe’s research focus in the field of neurodevelopmental supportive care of the preterm infant and she is recognised as a leader in this field in South Africa.  She acts as academic advisor on the neonatal community of practice of the LIFE Healthcare group.  She serves on the board for the Neonatal Nurses Association of South Africa: education portfolio, since 2011 and she is the owner of Little Steps®, which is a parenting support organisation for parents with premature infants and this organisation is a well-known brand, both nationally and on an international level.  Prof Lubbe is further the president of the South African Neonatal, Infant and Toddler Support Association (SANITSA) since 2004.  SANITSA was ‘born’ to provide a multi-disciplinary support platform for healthcare professionals working in this field of practice. </p> <p>Internationally, Prof Lubbe serves as South African representative on the Council of International Neonatal Nurses since 2010.  She has been invited as the first member from Africa to serve on the Graven’s Developmental Care Consensus panel, since 2014 and is also the first member from outside Europe to be invited as member of the Separation and Closeness Experiences in the Neonatal Environment (SCENE) research group, since 2014.  Prof Lubbe has been serving on the International Advisory Board of the Journal of Neonatal Nursing, since 2009 and is currently the section editor for the international section.</p> <p>Prof Lubbe received the Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award (DTEA) in 2017.  In 2016 she was awarded a fellowship from the Academy of Nursing of South Africa for her contribution towards nursing.  Most importantly Prof Lubbe is passionate about neonatal care and returning the parenting role to parents
