Wellness Day at the NWU´s Unit for Open Distance Learning was great fun
The North-West University´s (NWU´s) Unit for Open Distance Learning recently presented a wellness day in collaboration with the NWU employee wellness division (NWU Wellness4u).
Staff were divided into groups of 10, every group had a theme and had to prepare food. At the end of the day two external judges were used to evaluate the teams according to how their food tasted, their creativity, spirit and costumes.
Others involved were Bestmed, who performed free health tests, Specsavers, who performed free eye tests, and 4dHhealth, who gave medical aid advice to staff members. 4dHealth also brought a bicycle with which the staff could make their own smoothies.
According to the director of the unit, Prof Manie Spamer, the general wellness of staff members are very important, and therefore one day is set aside every year – not only to display everyone’s creativity, but also to build a team spirit again and to see to the health of the staff members at the same time.
The Voortrekkers were awarded the highest marks and were crowned the winners because of their sociability, a concertina for atmosphere, their costumes and their scrumptious menu.
