Top achievers in Education awarded for excellence during graduation ceremony

The School of Educational Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities on the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal) awarded three top achievers with Awards of Excellence during the Autumn Graduation Ceremony.

The Awards of Excellence are awarded to the top achieving graduates within each subject group. The spoils went to: Elisna Janse van Rensburg (BEd Foundation Phase), Ansoné van der Merwe (BEd Intermediate and Senior Phase) and Jowilna van den Berg (BEd Senior and Further Education andTraining Phase). The awards were presented by the Campus Rector (acting), Prof Linda du Plessis and the Vice-Rector (acting), Prof Tinie Theron.

Elisna Janse van Rensburg

Elisna completed her school career at the Afrikaans High School in Sasolburg in 2011. Over the course of her four years of study towards a BEd degree, she maintained an average of 83.75% (and achieved distinctions for 32 modules). She is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society for top achieving graduates and is currently a teacher at Lumier Primary School in Vaalpark.

Ansoné van der Merwe

Ansoné enrolled for a BEd degree in 2012 and subsequently completed the degree in the prescribed minimum period of four years. During this time she maintained an overall average of 83.5%, obtaining distinctions for 43 modules. In 2013 she was awarded a Top Achiever Award by the Faculty of Humanities as the best performing second year student. She is also a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society for top achieving graduates.  Ansoné is currently a Life Orientation and Business Studies educator in Vanderbijlpark.

Jowilna van den Berg

Jowilna enrolled for a BEd degree within the Senior and Further Education and Training Phase in 2012 after completing her school career at the Afrikaans High School in Sasolburg.  During her four years of study she passed all her modules with distinction – in fact, 20 modules were passed with an average of 90% and higher. In 2012 she was awarded a Top Achiever Award by the Faculty of Humanities as the best performing first year student. As a result of her good academic achievements, Jowilna is also a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.   She is currently employed as a Life Sciences and Geography educator at Driehoek High School in Vanderbijlpark.
