Sports Hall of Fame on the cards for Vaal Triangle region
The Vaal Triangle region boasts with an abundance of sporting talent and very soon these sportsmen and women will be included in the region’s very first Sports Hall of Fame.
This exciting project represents a collaboration between the Emfuleni Local Municipality and the Department of Sport and Recreation (School of Economic Sciences) within the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Information Technology on the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal). According to one of the project leaders, Dr Anita Lennox from the NWU Vaal, the Hall of Fame will be hosted at the Saul Tsotetsi Sport Complex in Sebokeng and will allow sport enthusiasts – young and old, to celebrate the region’s rich sporting history.
“The aim of the project is to give recognition to all individuals who made an impact and contribution towards the vesting of the region as a sporting stronghold,” says Dr Lennox and adds that it not only includes sportsmen and women but also administrators, coaches, managers, sport researchers and even sport writers - in short: individuals involved in every possible level of sport involvement, participation and development. With this in mind, a request is made to all residents of the Vaal Triangle to assist in identifying these individuals and by doing so, ensure that the necessary honour and recognition are bestowed upon them.
