School of Music cultures new hope

“Music can change the world because it has the ability to change people.” This was the words of renowned pop group artist, Bono, from the U2 group. It was with this in mind that students and staff from the North-West University’s (NWU´s) School of Music achieved the almost impossible...

The former Director of the NWU School of Music, Prof Karendra Devroop, established a wind ensemble at Die Wilge High School in Potchefstroom in 2012 as part of his South African Music Outreach Project. A beautiful and inspiring documentary of this initiative was filmed in part at the Conservatory and features many current music students and also alumni.

For the fifth year running, the School of Music is still involved in music teaching at Die Wilge High School as part of its community service. See the documentary here.
