NWU Vaal mourns the death of first-year student

The Campus community of the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal) suffered a traumatic blow when a first-year student – Loandrie Cilliers, lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, 20 February 2015. The accident took place whilst Loandrie – a member of the Acacia day residence, was on her way to the Campus.

The Cilliers family stays in Heilbron.

Loandrie was enrolled for the extended degree in marketing (BCom), within the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Information Technology.

According to the Dean of Students, Mrs Prem Coopoo, Campus officials sought to comfort both Loandrie’s family and her friends in the days following the tragedy. Many students, along with members of the Faculty and various support divisions, attended Loandrie’s funeral on Friday, 27 February.

An on-campus memorial service will be hosted for Loandrie on 6 March. “The death of a young person is always hard to understand,” says Mrs Karin Venter, House Parent of Acacia. She leaves behind her father, mother and two sisters.
