NWU Vaal hosts very successful Open Day

The Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University (NWU Vaal) recently hosted one of its most successful Open Days to date, with more than 4 000 students in attendance.

The Open Day – which took place on Saturday, 16 May 2015, saw students from as far as QwaQwa in the Free State and Pretoria in Gauteng flocking to acquaint themselves with the various academic offerings of the campus.

Prospective students were invited to attend and experience a multitude of demonstrations and exhibitions from the various departments and academic faculties. Parents and learners were afforded the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the Campus whilst the various residences and affiliated student societies were at hand to give a first-hand account of life as a university student.  The Campus’s mascot, Vuvu, also drew a lot of attention as he moved from one exhibition to another. He also assisted the Programme Directors – Mr Piet van Wyk and Mr Matome Kganakga, in directing the learners to the various academic presentations.

The annual Open Day provides prospective students and their parents with the unique opportunity to learn more about the distinctive quality that the NWU Vaal offers its students. Staff and current students also provide learners with the necessary information to enable them to make the right decisions regarding their studies and future careers.

This year also saw the Directorate Academic Development and Support (ADS) come on board and hosting the Reading for Achieving Project for Grade-12 learners.  This project aims to better the learners’ results by improving their standard of reading. The Reading for Achieving Project – valued at R300 per individual, was offered free of charge to a 100 learners. This project is set to continue during the July school holidays.

Prospective students should note that the closing date for selection programmes – such as Social Work, is 30 June 2015 and for all other programmes on 31 August 2015. For more information please visit the prospective student Facebook page or send an e-mail to Naled.hlabahlaba@nwu.ac.za
