The Science Centre on the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus is hosting the 17th Annual Conference of the Southern Africa Association of Science Centres (SAASTEC) at the Mmabatho Palms Hotel from 16-19 November 2015.

The theme of this conference is “Science Centres and the Science Engagement Framework”.

Papers presented are in line with the following objectives:

  • To share experiences on the theme of the conference and catalyse future exchange of knowledge among colleagues in the SADC countries.
  • To focus on the impact of science and technology centres in the regions they serve.
  • To stimulate the development of science and technology centres and to present models that could enhance education and change in Southern Africa.
  • To interact with the relevant regional and national government officials, the private sector, academics, students and communities.

“Science centres, museums and festivals are all important components of any national science engagement process and they are now recognised as effective vehicles for improving interest and understanding not only of science and technology, but of how they impact on our lives and on the world we live in,” says David Kramer, chairperson of SAASTEC.
