NWU Mafikeng Campus researcher attends nuclear programme

A researcher at the NWU Mafikeng Campus, Mr Tebogo Kupi, recently attended a three-day programme in Nuclear Security. Mr Kupi was sponsored by the US State Department to attend their Partnership Nuclear Security (PNS) programme which took place from 23 - 27 February 2015 in Vienna, Austria.

Mr Kupi is the Radiation Protection Officer at the Centre for Applied Radiation Science and Technology (CARST) on the Campus and also lectures in Radiation and Environment Security. The North-West University is a member of International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN) of which the mission is to enhance global nuclear security by developing, sharing and promoting excellence in nuclear security education.

The Nuclear Security Training Programme forms part of the programmes that CARST offers.  Thanks to the various meetings and programmes Mr Kupi attended, he was capacitated to present short courses not only to personnel at various institutions, but also to assist postgraduate and full-time students.
