NWU Academic receives South African Chemical Institute Award

Professor Helen Drummond, academic and acting executive dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology on the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus, recently received the Chemical Education Medal from the South African Chemical Institute (SACI). 

SACI is a body that promotes chemistry, chemists, the chemical industry and chemical education in South Africa.

The award is made to a member of the institute who has made an outstanding contribution to chemical education, as judged by the person’s published work in the previous five years. Published work may be in any form and may be related to any level or education context.

“It’s a very prestigious national award; it means a lot to have been awarded this medal.This is a sign that I am doing a good job in the field of chemical education,” said Prof Drummond.

Prof Drummond is the second academic from this campus to receive this award - Prof Mailoo Selvaratnam received it in 1995.
