NWU academic awarded TWAS-DFG Fellowship
A senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus has been awarded a TWAS-DFG fellowship in Germany. Dr Damian Onwudiwe is a member of the Material Science Innovation and Modelling Research Focus Area (MaSIM) in the Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology and is currently on a research visit to University of Cologne, Germany.
The aim of the visit is to facilitate research collaboration with German scientists, with the ultimate goal of developing long-term collaboration.
The TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme provides postdoctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, with the opportunity of making a ‘Cooperation Visit’ to an institute in Germany of no more than three months and must be undertaken within 12 months of the award.
The aim of the visit is to discuss research collaboration with German scientists with the ultimate goal of developing longer-term collaboration, through other German Research Foundation programmes.
Dr Onwudiwe is a researcher in nanomaterials synthesis and characterisation. He will be exploring the applications of specific semiconductor nanomaterials in environment and energy.
