National First Division (NFD), Jomo Cosmos FC now boasts a new addition to their squad – Thapelo Tlabakwe, an alumnus of the Soccer Institute on the North-West University`s (NWU’s) Mafikeng Campus.
Former SuperSport United FC player, Daylon Appolis, has recently joined the NWU Soccer Institute. Daylon has been part of the SuperSport United Academy based in Ladium since the age of 12.
Boitumelo Kobone, a student from the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU), recently participated in the Whale Boxing Tournament in Hermanus. The 20-year-old competed in the 58-60 kg division against fellow female amateur boxers from the Eastern Cape Boxing League, for which she won gold for being the best elite female boxer.
The Sports Department on the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) continues to cultivate young talent that shines on world stages. Moses Radebe, a MSc student in Radiation Science and avid Ju-Jitsu athlete, was recently crowned the world Ju-Jitsu champion in two divisions. The championship was held in Salvador Bahia, Brazil on 8 and 9 October.
North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus football team makes a return to this year’s roster of competing teams of the annual Varsity Football tournament. Having not qualified last season, the team has set their sights on making a resounding comeback.
During the recess the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus students successfully defended their titles as they participated in several sporting codes at the University Sport South Africa (USSA) games held in Cape Town. The various sporting codes which participated and stood out from the rest are badminton, netball, karate, korfball, ballroom and latin dance.
