The Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) recently acknowledged academic and support staff members for their steadfast hard work and positive contribution towards the campus during its annual Excellence Awards. The awards ceremony took place on 22 November at the Mmabatho Palms Hotel.
The NWU Mafikeng Campus School of Business Governance has relocated to a new office complex at Leopard Park, Mahikeng. The official opening of the new offices was held on 24 November with a ceremony attended by the Vice Chancellor of the NWU, Prof Dan Kgwadi.
A senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus has been awarded a TWAS-DFG fellowship in Germany. Dr Damian Onwudiwe is a member of the Material Science Innovation and Modelling Research Focus Area (MaSIM) in the Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology and is currently on a research visit to University of Cologne, Germany.
North-West University (NWU) Mafikeng Campus LLB graduate, Nthabiseng Kgobokoe, was recently crowned the female entrepreneur of the year at the annual awards ceremony of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF). She received the award in the category “Best subsistence farming”.

Boitumelo Kobone, a student from the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU), recently participated in the Whale Boxing Tournament in Hermanus. The 20-year-old competed in the 58-60 kg division against fellow female amateur boxers from the Eastern Cape Boxing League, for which she won gold for being the best elite female boxer.
Noorie Hammond, a retired employee of the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus, launched her book entitled ‘Letters from my Heart’ on 29 October 2016 at the Leopard Park Golf Club in Mahikeng. She also made use of the occasion to bid farewell to former colleagues and friends.
The Faculty of Commerce and Administration at the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU), has introduced a short course to bridge the mathematical gap. This course is specifically aimed at those students and learners who wish to improve their marks in Mathematics.

Moses Radebe, a MSc student in Radiation Science and avid Ju-Jitsu athlete, was recently crowned the world Ju-Jitsu champion in two divisions. The championship was held in Salvador Bahia, Brazil on 8 and 9 October.
The annual Spring Graduations of the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus was hosted this year at the Mmabatho Convention Centre on 13 and 14 October 2016.
On 15 September 2016 the Nursing Department on the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) hosted an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) seminar at the campus’ Nursing building which focused on the ear nose and throat conditions and treatments.
