Shani is a cardiovascular physiologist, appointed as senior lecturer and researcher in the field of Human Cardiovascular Physiology. As part of the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART), Shani performs and performed research in research studies, including the African-PREDICT study, PURE study, SABPA II study and EndoAfrica study.
A/Prof Ruan Kruger is the current Interim Research Leader of the NRF SARChI Research Chair in Early detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease in Africa, hosted by the Centre of Excellence: the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART), North-West University, South Africa. He is also a member of the MRC Research Unit for Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease.
Research focus: early detection and prevention of hypertension and early vascular ageing, especially in children and early adulthood.
Prof FC Eloff has been a lecturer at the PU for CHE, later NWU since 1979. He is currently Occupational Hygiene programme leader in the School of Physiology, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences. He is responsible for the development and management of a new professional Baccalaureus Health Sciences in Occupational Hygiene degree.
Serves as UNISA subject organiser (Physiology) since 1999 and is responsible for the organising of the practical modules presented to UNISA students.
Alta (Aletta E.) Schutte is Professor of Physiology, and funded by the Department of Science and Technology as the South African Research Chair (SARChI) in the Early Detection and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in South Africa – hosted by the Hypertension in Africa Research Team (HART) at the North-West University. She is also the Unit Director of Medical Research Council Extramural Unit for Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease.
