She uses the flipped classroom pedagogical model for third year Accounting students. Students are required to view short videos on the theory at home before the class session and this enables contact sessions to be devoted to practical work. This change enables more students to be engaged in the contact sessions and increase their confidence in the subject.
Jan van Romburgh (CA (SA)) holds a Master of Commerce in Management Accounting, obtained from the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University (NWU) in 2009, and is a member of the Institute of Commercial Forensic Practitioners (ICFP), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
Jan is currently the Deputy Director of the School of Accountancy at the NWU. Jan was fundamental in establishing the Program in Forensic Accountancy at the NWU in 2006.

Herman van Dyk is a Chartered Accountant (South Africa), Associate Chartered Accountant (England and Wales) and a Master Tax Practitioner (SA). He holds a Master of Commerce cum laude in South African and International Taxation (North-West University) and his dissertation entitled “Grounds for allowing a tax deduction for employee share incentives” received the award for best dissertation.
I am a lecturer in Accounting. I have been at the school of Accounting for 8 years. I have lectured in Accounting for 1st years all modules CA and Non CA modules, and second year modules CA and Non CA modules, and have lectured 3rd years in the Non CA stream - Financial Accounting and have also lectured Honours - Financial Accounting students.
Surika holds the Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) designation. Her academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Financial Management (Cum Laude) and a PhD in Accountancy (in the field of Accounting Education). She has been lecturing Financial Management for 18 years at various levels levels of complexity and currently lectures Financial Management to CA students at fourth year level (CTA).
As a lecturer of fourth year accounting students I have extensive knowledge about international financial reporting. I am currently doing research on heritage assets in the public sector and my expertise extends to financial reporting by government.
Research in the field of Teaching and Learning:
After graduating from the NWU with distinctions in all 31 semester modules as the top performer in the faculty, I qualified as a chartered accountant and achieved the fifth position nationwide in the IRBA Public Practice Exam (PPE) in 2005.
I was awarded the ABSA bronze medal for the best Masters' student in the social sciences at the NWU. I joined the NWU in 2007 and was named best lecturer in the university in 2008 and received an award for inspirational education from Rapport in 2010.
