Surika holds the Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) designation. Her academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Financial Management (Cum Laude) and a PhD in Accountancy (in the field of Accounting Education). She has been lecturing Financial Management for 18 years at various levels levels of complexity and currently lectures Financial Management to CA students at fourth year level (CTA).
Research outputs include numerous research papers at national and international conferences, several papers published in South African and international journals and she has successfully delivered numerous Master’s Degree students. Her current research is focused on Financial Management and Accounting Education.
She is co-author of a Financial Management textbook and reviewer for various accredited journals. Surika is the Institutional Subject Head for Financial Management at NWU. She is also involved with different initiatives at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), including a competency framework group and a collaborative research group on accounting education.
