Dr Chris Vorster qualified in 1998 as a medical doctor and in 2007 as a specialist in chemical pathology. He worked in the private health care sector for several years before joining the North-West University in 2010. He is currently the head of the Centre for Human Metabonomics, a centre of competence with the aim of establishing sophisticated infrastructure and expertise that enables high level metabolic research and diagnostics within South Africa. In this capacity he oversees all research and diagnostic activities within the centre as well as the post graduate training program in biochemistry.
Chris is frequently consulted by both public and private health care providers with regards to inherited metabolic diseases and new-born screening and is also regularly invited to contribute to continuous professional development events. His ambition is to translate sophisticated metabolic research infrastructure and methodologies into applications that is suited for the diagnostic industry and beneficial to health services in South Africa.
