Experts to address International Conference on Health Science Education
Various experts are expected to participate in an international conference on Health Science Education, Leadership and Practice that will be hosted by the Department of Nursing Science on the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU).
The conference will take place at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg from 15-17 April 2015.
Prof Wendy Sword, the director of the School of Nursing and associate dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa, Canada, will be the keynote speaker. She has a long-standing academic career and has been a professor at McMaster University for more than 28 years before assuming her role at the University of Ottawa on 1 February 2015. In recent years Prof Sword has co-led workshops on problem-based learning in South Africa and Botswana, and she has provided curriculum consultation to the Mafikeng Campus' Department of Nursing Science.
Other speakers at the event will include Dr NJ Makhanya, among others a head of ministry at the Kwa-Zulu Natal provincial Department of Health, Prof Fhumulani Mavis Mulaudzi, the head of the Department of Nursing Science and chairperson of the School of Health Care Sciences at the University of Pretoria as well as Prof Sarah Lynn Lawson, an associate professor in the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
Many other experts are expected to share their expertise and experience, support and motivations with regard to health science education, leadership and practice. Topics such as Trends in Higher Education: preparing practitioners of the future; Mentoring for Health Care Practitioners; and workshops such as Writing for Publication, Proposal Writing for Funding, Programme evaluation and Issues in Implementing Problem-Based and Inquiry learning will be shared during this educational conference.
