Expert in radiation protection attends international workshop
Mr Tebogo Kupi from the Centre for Applied Radiation Science and Technology (CARST) on the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus recently attended a workshop on Fundamentals of Radiological Source Security in London.
Mr Kupi is the accounting officer for radiological sources and an expert in nuclear security and radiation protection.
The workshop, sponsored by the Nuclear Security Consortium, was hosted by the Centre for Science and Security Studies (CSSS) and organised by the United Kingdom´s Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in London.
Topics covered in the different sessions included radiological materials and their uses, radiological threats and regulatory approaches, to mention but a few. The workshop was attended by 15 participants from eight different countries from across the world.
CARST have been contracted by the Council for GeoScience (CGS) to provide services in applied radiation science and technology and to give support with respect to radiation measurement and assessment at abandoned and ownerless mines on behalf of the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR).
