Diploma lecturer receives award as runner-up in the category: most quoted NWU colleague
Recently, the North-West University held its annual ‘spokesperson of the year’ awards ceremony for 2012. Recognition is given to academics, researchers and other NWU faculty members for the positive contribution to the media landscape.
The NWU’s second most quoted person was Mr Theo Venter, special advisor in the Office of the Vice-chancellor, as well as lecturer for the subject Strategic Formulation for the Post-graduate Diploma in Management at the NWU’s Potchefstroom Business School. He received R15 000 in prize money.
The awards are a means of providing recognition to the exceptional attempts of several experts who share their expertise with the media and in this way keep the public informed. In 2012, 12 186 pieces of media commentary were published, compared to the 7 730 in 2011 – an increase of 57.6%. When the 2012 figures are compared to the number of articles that saw the light in 2010, they show an increase of 260%. The 2012 articles’ advertisement equivalent value was an astronomical R285 004 666. There were 11 613 balanced items, 507 positive items and only 66 items with unfavourable coverage.
The increase in the number of articles in the press is due to a concerted effort by the Institutional Office, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communication departments on the three campuses – Potchefstroom, Mafikeng and Vaal Triangle – to improve the profile of the University.
“We are really proud to announce the winners of the different categories for 2012 and we would like to thank them for their exceptional contribution,” says Dr Theuns Eloff, Vice-chancellor of the NWU.
