Coachlab@Vaal: transforming and revitalising the Gauteng economy
“Coachlab is an incredible programme for all graduates finishing their first degree. It is a sure way to fast tract your career.” This is according to Mr McLean Sibanda, Chief Executive Officer of the Innovation Hub, an agency within the Gauteng Department of Economic Development and subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA).
He delivered this message via a video recording during the recent graduation ceremony of the first group of postgraduate students to complete their skills and development training at the Coachlab @ Vaal on the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University. The event saw 19 graduates take to the stage.
The Coachlab @ Vaal programme – the third rendition of the Coachlab initiative in Gauteng, is vested within the bhive Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) on the Campus and represents one of the flagship programmes offered within the bhive EDC. According to Sibanda the development of the Coachlab @ Vaal represented “an interesting development” for the Innovation Hub since it is the first Coachlab to be vested outside the borders of Tswane. In partnership with the South African Graduate Development Agency (SAGDA), Coachlab @ Vaal was successfully launched in 2014.
“I want to congratulate every student who completed the programme, and I am especially proud of the 17 students who found employment as a direct result of the programme. Continue to be ambassadors of your alma mater and of Coachlab because together we can achieve so much more.”
Sibanda also reached out to potential corporate partners and invited them to join the programme and by doing so contribute towards the transformation, modernisation and revitalising of the Gauteng economy.
* The bhive EDC is vested within the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Information Technology on the Vaal Triangle Campus.
