ATKV honours research in the mother tongue
An ATKV SA Academic Award has just been awarded to Prof. Hein Viljoen, for the recent publication of two excellent articles.
The Afrikaans Language and Culture Association (ATKV) sets aside an annual amount of R60 000, awarded to the top six Afrikaans articles published in a particular year, in an accredited journal, i.e. R10 000 per article. Four prizes are earmarked for articles in humanities, and two for articles in the natural sciences, which include engineering and medical sciences.
The articles for which Viljoen has been awarded, are entitled Kreolisering van die simbolisme in die poësie van TT Cloete, which appears in the Journal of Humanities, and Op soek na Leipoldt se oom Gert – 'n studie in historiese resonansies, as published in LitiNet Academic.
The South African Academy for Science and Art conducts the selection process. In 2012, the best articles published in 2009 and 2010, were submitted to the Academy for judging, by the editors of accredited journals. 19 articles, from 12 journals were submitted.
Prof. Ewert Kleynhans, who is a member of the Academic Council, and Japie Gouws, managing director of the ATKV group, handed over the award.
