Age is not a factor
For Lehlohonolo Phali (28), age is not a factor as he became the youngest graduate at the North-West University´s (NWU´s) Mafikeng Campus to receive a PhD in Applied Mathematics.
Phali grew up in Sebokeng in Gauteng and registered as a first-year student in 2005 with the sole purpose of studying mathematics and despite facing many financial challenges he managed to obtain his degree and went on to finally also attain his PhD.
He is a lecturer in Applied Mathematics in the Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology and aims to become a senior lecturer in order to supervise postgraduate students.
He contributed his degree to his mother and the late Prof Matthew Kambule who played significant roles in his academic career.
