Prof Juaneé Cilliers obtained her Bachelors degree and Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning Cum Laude at the North West University. She obtained her PhD degree in Urban and Regional Planning in 2008 at the same universality. She is currently registered as a professional Town Planner at SACPLAN (South African Council for Planners). She was appointed as Senior Lecturer at the North West University in 2009, and international researcher for Wageningen University in the Netherlands, conducting research on two Interreg EU projects namely (1) VALUE: Valuing attractive landscapes in the urban economy and (2) LICI: Lively cities. These projects triggered an interest in Green Economics and she furthered her studies by completing another Masters Degree in Economics in 2010. She has an established publication record and received NRF (National Research Foundation) rating (Y-status) in 2013. She was promoted to Associate Professor Urban and Regional Planning, as from 1 Jan 2015. She specializes in Green Planning, Sustainable Development and Particpatory planning studies. She currently holds three NRF funded projects: (1) Thuthuka funding for green space planning in rural areas, (2) a Community Development Grant for developing child-friendly spaces and (3) THRIP funding for creating a rural land-use scheme.
